The 7th Annual Children’s Softball Tournament was a great success!
Eleven teams participated in the 2011 softball tournament with a new champion being crowned this year. The champion from the past three years, The Sycamore Thrashers, were defeated twice by The Wood Chuckers under the guidance of Matt Howell on Saturday to become the new champion.
Overall, the tournament raised $4,500 for the Foundation that does not include the late donations that will come in over the next few weeks. The team with the highest level of donation was the Traumanators (JCMC Emergency Dept), who are the 2011 Softball Fundraising Champions.
This year we were unable to have the Home Run Derby due to shifting more games to Friday because of Thursday being cancelled because of the weather. However, Lamar Rollins was crowned the 2011 Home Run Champion for the tournament and will receive the 2011 Home Run Derby Bat! Lamar hit 6 Home Runs throughout the tournament while leading his team to victory with 3 Home Runs coming in one game. We are not sure why the pitchers kept throwing him money balls to knock out. Congratulations Lamar!!!

The Niswonger Children’s Hospital Softball Classic is held annually in October at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City. Teams made up of MSHA employees participate in a fun, three-day softball tournament designed to raise funds to aid in the construction of a regional children’s hospital on the campus of Johnson City Medical Center.
The First Annual Softball Classic was held in 2005 and included eight teams. Participants in the 2005 tournament raised pledges of around $35,000.
