Mountain States Health Alliance's Spiritual and Pastoral Care Department provides emotional and spiritual support for patients, families and team members as part of the Patient-Centered Care approach to healing of the mind, body and spirit.
Support is offered empathically through a welcoming presence and active listening, which encourages the discovery of hope in the midst of uncertainty.
Funding Priorities
Spiritual care for patients, families and team members
- Prayer Garden with prayer stations and labyrinth at JCMC - $5,000
- Flat screen TVs for chapels for meditation channel/music - $2,500 - desired quantity: 5
- New worship hymnals (200 for 15 sites) - $3,000
- Handmade hanging quilts for chapels with spiritual themes - $2,500- desired quantity: 5
- Music systems for hymns and other sacred music - $2,500- desired quantity: 5
- Camera for recording of Chapel Reflections to play on Spiritual Care Hospital Channel for patients - $2,000
- Development and Maintenance of team member "Faith Channel" with features like team members answering the question, "How does my faith inform my work with patients?"
- Inspirational Reflections, relaxation techniques, etc. - $8,000
Education and training of chaplains
- Yearly funds for 2 people to attend Ethics Conference at University of Virginia - $3,000
- Digital date screen projector - $1,300- desired quantity: 2
- Personal portable computers for training and web cam conferences throughout Mountain States system (desired quantity 10 x $1,000) - $10,000
- Annual Endowment for spiritual care/ethics conference - $5,000/year
